It takes a lot of experimenting because every flower is different. You do have to experiment with it at first to avoid burning or cooking your specimens, but the instructions are very clear about how to do this. The end result is usually more vibrant colors, quick, even drying without brittle leaves (providing you are careful), and finally, a beautiful portrait. For anyone considering what size to get, the bigger one is definitely the one you want. The smaller one just won't hold the number of leaves or flowers you'll want to put in there. In fact, I wish I'd purchased two!
